WEEK 4...

~Spring Fair:
Wow! What a fantastic day we had at the fair! The weather was gorgeous, and everyone was so happy!  We sold ALL of our things at the fair - SO COOL!  We even had people coming up afterwards to see if we had any more Jolly Jars coming in...we were a very popular stall!

Thank you VERY, VERY much to EVERYONE who helped out in SO many ways; stall work, marquee donation, bunting, selling raffle tickets, hamper donations, guess the lolly donation, chocolate donation, craft donations, and of course, JOLLY JARS!!!

Mrs de Jong was quite stunned by all of the help and donations - she told Room 8 that she actually had a dream about lots of jars coming in, but she didn't expect it to come true in such a FANTASTIC way!  She REALLY enjoyed the day (except for getting wet), and it will be exciting to see how much money our stall raised for Arahoe Community.

Here are some beautiful ladies getting ready to start selling our goodies before the fair started...

~Topic:
This term our Social Science topic is “Let Your Light Shine”.  We will be learning about the various aspects of light.
In Week 1, we discussed all that we know about light already (to establish prior knowledge) and we filled 3 big sheets with our knowledge !!
We are excited about all the things we could be learning this term.
While we know a lot about man-made light, natural light and light in culture/traditions, when we began to discuss what the light is within us, we were a bit unsure of how it fitted into our lives.
In Week 2, we went around 5 different classes to try out activities/experiments related to the Week 1 aspects of light, and see what we liked, and what interested us.
We talked about Key Competencies, and how they are the TOOLS FOR LEARNING, to help us achieve our goals - even adults need to use Key Competencies to have a successful life!
While we will be using some of every Key Competency in our learning, Room 8's special focus will be on the Key Competency of Self Management to help us produce something wonderful to show our families. We have these in our topic area to remind us of the KC's:

In Week 3, we reflected on the Week 2 activities, and started to think about what learning we would like to show our families in the Student Led Conferences (see below for more info).

We will be starting to look at the Blendspaces for the Rotation classes we went to in Week 2, and thinking about what we would like to present to our families for the Student Led Conferences.
