Hi again...

Forgot to add this.... it's a link to the wonderful holiday reading programme being promoted through  Auckland Public Libraries.  We had 2 hilarious librarians come talk to the children about it at an assembly. Well worth a look...

***ATHLETICS DAY:

Congratulations to our relay team (Leeda, Macy, Shivkrant and Mark) for winning the class relay against rooms 5, 6, 7 and 9. They burned up the track all the way round - awesome to watch!!

Lots of members of Room 8 had success in their events - some did better than they thought they would!  Well done all of you for having a go and being good sports, that's what the day is all about...

 Trouble in the stands...

**TOPIC:
Room 8 have really been getting in to the spirit of volunteering and understand what it means to "fill someone's bucket".  They have been filling our caretaker Mr Mike's bucket this week by helping out with gardening jobs around the school. The bush area by the front drive pathway as well as the drains got a shock when Room 8 turned up and started digging and pulling!!

Well done Room 8 for filling Mr Mike's bucket - he's really lucky to have you to help!!

**ART:

Room 8 have created some amazing optical illusions using a mixture of straight lines and curves. They will look great around the house during the holidays!  They give the illusion of one set of "poles" seeming to come right at you out from the page!!

**End of year treat day:

The teachers have been advised that there are to be no Secret Santas or Shared Lunches this year, to minimise extra pressure on families leading up to the holiday season. In it's place, Room 8 will be having a Games Day on Thursday 15th Dec.  With your permission, they can bring along games to play and teach other children the class. When we are not in class, the games will be locked away in the cupboard, and the classroom locked.

***THANK YOU!!!!
In case I don't get the opportunity to blog again before next Thursday, I would like to give heartfelt thanks to the Room 8 parents whom I have had the pleasure to meet over the year. The assistance on trips, helping in the classroom, with the fair, supporting me with the classroom programme at home by spending endless hours sweating over things like basic facts - it all contributes to making the class run more smoothly. I have been blessed to have such friendly, helpful people such as yourselves to support me and your children - thank you SO MUCH.

Have a safe, happy, refreshing holiday....

Chris de Jong.

WEEK 3, TERM 4...

Hi everyone, I hope you've enjoyed a great Labour Weekend, with this great weather!!
Our Room 8 children have got an exciting week coming up...

*SWIMMING: We start swimming this week, from 2pm to 3pm, every day.  If you could help your child get organised for this, it will ensure a smooth running, fun time for everyone. Please remember that as part of the PE curriculum, swimming is compulsory, so everyone is expected to participate.
If you do not wish your child to be involved, please send a note in to explain the reason for non participation, thanks.

*STUDENT LED CONFERENCES: These are on this week, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Remember to check your invite to make sure you have the right day and time. Arriving on time will help the conferences to run smoothly, as they are on a tight 15 min timeframe and will reduce stress for everybody involved.  Your children are very excited (and a little nervous!) to be doing this for you. They're going to be great - ENJOY!!!

*SPRING FAIR: Just when we've caught our breath from Student Led Conferences, Spring Fair will be here this coming weekend! (29th October).  There are still some slots available on the window roster, if you are able to help out on the stall on the day - any help and donations of Jolly Jars would be so awesome, thanks!!

*SUN SAFETY: When I was out on duty last week, I was definitely starting to feel the sting of the sun on my skin, which means your children will be, too. Please help them stay safe by ensuring they have a NAMED (please!!!!) hat with them each day from now on. They are not permitted to be involved in sports activities if they don't have one, which is a guaranteed downbuzz for them - cheers!!

*DIWALI: Arabella and Kyra were involved in the Diwali Festival at the Trusts Stadium over the weekend, as part of Arahoe's Bollyhop dance group. Thanks to these photos from Arabella's mum, I'm guessing a great time was had by all!!  Nice one, girls!!!
