Week 9, Term 2

Hi everyone...

Just a reminder that as part of our Safety First topic study this term, we will be having some guest speakers at 9am this Wednesday (in the hall) from the BARK association come to talk to the children about safety around dogs.

As they are a voluntary association, any gold coin donation on or before the day would be hugely appreciated by them.

Thanks very much!

WEEK 7, TERM 2

Hi everyone, I hope you have had a great week. During our Friday tests, we have been seeing a gradual improvement in the test scores for basic facts. Everyone is very excited and motivated to do well, wanting to beat their previous score.

Below, I have reposted the basic facts home learning sheets, to save you trawling through old posts to find them. Please take some time to help your child practise the level they are on, as this really helps with their learning and motivation.

Mash Leadership (Making Arahoe a Safe Haven)

Stripy Day - Friday 1st July 2016

To the parents/caregivers of Ara Pakeke students

Mash Leadership is organising a Stripy Day to raise funds for a “Meet Seat” in the Ara Pakeke playground area.  We encourage all students and teachers to dress up in stripy clothing and donate a gold coin or two!  Any funds raised will go towards the cost of a bench seat used to solve problems and encourage friendships during playtimes.  Over the coming weeks, Mash Leadership will also design a plaque to be attached to the seat.  We hope that you support our Stripy Day and contribute to this exciting new initiative.

Kind Regards
Jocelyn Hair and Mash Leadership

WEEK 6, TERM 2...

OOPS!!!  Forgot to mention the disco coming up...

WEEK 6, TERM 2

Hi everyone....

Week 6 is here already, and we are well into our Safety First topic study.
We were fortunate enough to have Mac from St John Ambulance come and give a talk to Room 8 about how to ring through an emergency call, as well as show us basic bandaging skills. Here's some of the action...

Mac demonstrated on Bella how to make a fist bandage for when you cut your hand.
Then Room 8 got into pairs and practised!

We had a fun time and learnt some valuable skills for being able to help in an emergency.

**Personal safety...
This week Constable Carl Musto will be visiting Ara Pakeke  to talk about 'Keeping Ourselves Safe',
teaching units that are part of the personal safety programme Keeping Ourselves Safe.

Abuse occurs in all communities, regardless of their ethnic, socio-economic, geographic and religious make-up. A child who has been abused is less likely to reach their full potential as an individual, may struggle to focus on learning, and may fail to thrive.
Keeping Ourselves Safe [KOS] is a comprehensive child protection programme in which students learn and apply a range of safety skills that they can use when interacting with others.

For more information about the programme or about child abuse, see the NZ Police website, or contact the school.
