Room 8's Blog

Hello everyone, and welcome to Room 8's Blog!!

We hope you will enjoy our postings .... Mrs de Jong is still learning how to make this magic happen, so please bear with us!

Writing:
We've been really busy these past weeks, concentrating on improving our writing, especially in the area of punctuation skills such as full stops, capital letters and commas.

Reading:
We are currently focusing on identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives in pieces of text, including our writing. We'll work on this for a little longer, as it's still a bit of a challenge for a lot of us.

Maths:
We have been focusing on improving our skills in multiplication and repeated addition, and seeing the relationship between these two. We have been working on some strategies for solving problems in this area.
On Mondays and Fridays we have Strand Maths, where we have been learning to identify differences between 2D and 3D shapes.
Please continue to support us by helping us practise our basic facts at home.

Here are some videos that will help us remember all those amazing facts we learnt about 2D and 3D shapes:

Topic:
Whaea Leanne has been very generous with her time, coming to visit us twice a week to teach us the poi song we are learning for the Matariki assembly on Friday 3rd July. The song tells the story of Rona and The Moon.
We would love it if you could come and watch us on the day!  Here are some photos of our practice sessions - as you can see, it's been lots of fun, and we've been learning the story of the song at the same time.

Homework:
Thank you for supporting us and our teacher as the new homework routine has been getting underway. We are getting better at remembering to change our choosing books first thing when we get to school.
Over the holidays, it would be great if you could support us with our reading at home, by listening to us with our choosing books, and perhaps going to the local library!

A+ Mandarin Students!
A big congratulations to Tasha and Poppy for receiving an A+ in their Mandarin Class tests! We are very proud of you both - so clever!

Happy Kiwiana Day!
On Wednesday 1st July, we celebrated Kiwiana Day. There were lots of rugby and league shirts, Swandris and NZ styled T shirts running around the place. A big thumbs up to Tasha, who put in a huge effort making her "jandal" costume - amazing!

THANK YOUS:
A huge thank you to family members of students in our class who have come in and helped us out in various ways. You are so important in helping our class run smoothly:

~Leanne Castle: Rona song
~Serina Rogerson: Putting our millions of readers away in the resource room!
~Grace Tetley: Taking Room 8 for a fun game of "Heads Down, Thumbs Up"

You are all awesome and it's appreciated so much.

Have a safe, happy holiday everybody!
